Cortland County Connections: Abraham Lincoln

Come commemorate Cortland's connection to the Civil War and our
sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln! Join Cortland County Historical
Society and SUNY Cortland's first ever Public History class as we
celebrate the opening of our new exhibit “Cortland County Connections:
Abraham Lincoln.”  was held on May 1, 2009 from 5 pm to 7 pm at 25 Homer
Avenue, Cortland NY.

It explores four men who played a pivotal role in the
presidency of Abraham Lincoln. Learn about William Osborn Stoddard, Eli
DeVoe, Francis Bicknell Carpenter, and David Ross Locke (Petroleum
Vesuvius Nasby). See how their lives connected themselves and Cortland
County with Abraham Lincoln. Along with a look at these four men the
exhibit will also demonstrate the county's connection to the Civil War.
Children can also enjoy our Civil War Kids Corner where they can try on
a Civil War Uniform as well as play with other Civil War related items.
Free fun for the whole family!

This semester SUNY Cortland students have had a first hand opportunity
to participate in the exhibit planning process. From design to
installation these students have been involved with the entire exhibit
and hope you will join us as we celebrate their hard work and dedication.
